Conceptual analysis of the construction of citizenship "from below" in order to illuminate the meaning of democracy as people experience it in everyday life. In particular, it explores the means by which individuals who are formally defined as citizensh put their citizensh9ip into practice. If citizenship is about rights, it necessarily entails responsibilitie and civic commitments.
