Resumen:
A new species, Vernonia lanifera, from northeastern Argentina and southern Brazil is described and illustrated. It is a xilopodiferous plant found growing in high stony ground. The leaves show a thick woolly layer on the lower surface; young stems and involucral bracts are also lanate. It resembles V. rubricaulis which is characterized by sericeous indument with short, shining, pressed hairs, numerous lateral thick roots, and grows on low and humid lands.
