Resumen:
This work deals with the one-pot production of pentyl valerate (PV) in liquid phase at 523 K and 10 bar of H2 from -valerolactone (GVL) and pentanol (reactant/solvent) over noble metal-based bifunctional catalysts. The catalysts Pt(1%)/SiO2-Al2O3, Ir(1%)/SiO2-Al2O3 and Ru(1%)/SiO2-Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by incipient wetness impregnation of commercial SiO2-Al2O3 using aqueous solutions of chlorinated metal precursors. From CO chemisorption, a metal dispersion between 0.9% and 27.4% was determined. By temperature-programmed desorption of NH3, different values of acid site density were observed, being this parameter crucial to improve the catalytic performance for the PV production due to the fact that the first two consecutive reactions in the one-pot process are acid-catalyzed reactions. The highest acid site density combined with the highest metal dispersion in Pt/SiO2-Al2O3 were found to favor the activity and selectivity to PV, reaching a GVL conversion of almost 70% with a PV selectivity of 73.5% after 8 h of reaction. On the other hand, Ir/SiO2-Al2O3 and Ru/SiO2-Al2O3 with lower acidity and metal dispersion showed values of PV selectivity lower than 27%.
