Lanthanides, the importance of 4f electrons in the energy loss

In this work we studied lanthanides by using a full-relativistic description of the electronic structure of allshells. We tested the so obtained wave functions in binding energies in stopping power calculations, considering separatelythe contributions of the valence and bound electrons. Present results for protons in Gd and Er state doubts on thepresent knowledge of the stopping values in lanthanides, and shows that an appropiate characterization of the 4felectronsplays a decisive rol.
