Resumen:
This book brings together a description of three-dimensional boundary element methods for the analysis of fatigue crack problems in linear and non-linear fracture mechanics. The formulations introduced in the book are based on the "Dual Boundary Element Method." The derivation of the boundary integral formulations is given together with the descriptions of the modeling strategies. Special care is devoted to the description of accurate algorithms for the evaluation of singular and near-singular integrals in dual equations. Within the linear method a general procedure for the simulation of three-dimensional multiple fatigue crack growth and coalescence is presented, together with an automatic re-meshing procedure to track the crack propagation. Within the non-linear procedure, a three-dimensional Elastoplastic Dual Boundary Element Method is presented, to take into account elastoplastic behavior at the crack front. The capabilities of the procedures are demonstrated by solving a number of examples.
