Resumen:
Tourism is an important source for local development. Recently, geotourism is a new offering that has shown not only the promotion of cultural and natural heritage, such as the fossils and landscape, but also helps to show to the people about its scientific, social and economic importance, generating resources to protect them. In this paper, the Centro de Pesquisas Paleontológicas Llewellyn Ivor Price and the Museu dos Dinossauros, both integrated to the Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro, are presented. Peirópolis rural neighborhood, located at Uberaba District, have over the past 20 years implemented activities designed to: preserve the fossil records and sites, conduct and support scientific research, strengthen the educational projects; implement geoconservation public policies, making dissemination and popularization of science to induce mechanisms for sustainable development. These actions created a singular fact: the fossils have gained a new application and value that transcends its own scientific importance. They are elements of social, economic and cultural revitalization. Due to the paleontological tourism, the community of Peirópolis lives today from the operation of services and products, focused on the dinosaur theme. The implementation of the Geopark ?Uberaba - Land of Dinosaurs from Brazil? will strengthen the geotourism in Brazil and also the regional development.
