Resumen:
Deception Island is located at the SW end of the Shetland Islands, NE of Graham Land Peninsula, and was build along the axis of the Bransfield Strait. The last separates the South Shetland Islands archipelago from the Antarctic Peninsula (Fig. 1). It has a horseshoe-shaped morphology (Fig. 1) and a narrow passage named Neptune Bellows provides entrance to a natural harbour. The island geometry was generated by the collapse of the central part of a stratovolcano. The origin of the volcano is related to a rift spreading center in the Bransfield Strait, which is responsible for a line of submerged seamounts.
