Resumen:
SIRGAS reference frameThe primary objective of SIRGAS (Sistema deReferencia Geocéntrico para las Américas) is thedetermination and maintenance of a reliable referenceframe in Latin America and the Caribbean as adensification of the ITRF and as a regional realisationof the ITRS. The SIRGAS reference frame is currentlycomposed of 418 continuously operating GNSSstations (Fig. 1). It comprises two hierarchy levels: acore network (SIRGAS-C) providing the primary link tothe global ITRF; and national reference networks(SIRGAS-N) improving the geographical density of thereference stations to ensure the accessibility to thereference frame at national and local levels. Giventhat most of the existing ITRF stations in SouthAmerica are affected by the strong seismic activity inthis region, further stations located in Europe, Africa,Oceania and North America are included in SIRGASto increase the availability of fiducial points.
