Resumen:
In this work, part of the results obtained in the framework of an in-ternational cooperation project to study cordierite-based porous materi-als prepared by thermal consolidation of ceramic suspensions with dif-ferent native starches, are presented. In particular, results related to the characterization of green compacts are reported and discussed. In or-der to obtain a based-cordierite material, a precursor mixture of kaolin, talc and alumina was employed, together with native starches of potato, corn and cassava as consolidating/bonding and pore former at high temperature agent. The green materials characterization was carried out by density and porosity measurements, microstructural analysis and mechanical evaluation. Based on the obtained information, it was con-cluded that the agent with the best global behaviour is the potato starch.
