Resumen:
As the donor age increases there is a concomitant decrease in the percentile contribution of whole blood by a heavy density fraction of red blood cells. The aim of this work is to investigate in young and old individuals, the interaction between monocytes and different erythrocytes suspensions: senescent red blood cells, erythrocytes stored with or without serum and desialyzated red blood cells. The results obtained with senescent red blood cells and erythrocytes stored with serum show the involvement of autologous IgG in the selective removal of erythrocytes. These values were higher in old individuals indicating that this process would increase in aged donors. Our observations suggest that the desialylation would not participate in the increased removal of erythrocytes observed in old individuals.
