Resumen:
Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a fine chemical utilized in the chemical, food and pharmaceutical industries. Nowadays, it is mainly obtained from green coffee grains. Different investigations mentioned that yerba mate contains significant amounts of CGA. Hereafter, we report the preparation of CGA from a yerba mate extract (YME). YME was purified after one-step chromatography with an ion-exchange column. Diluted YME was loaded into the column. Then, it was washed with water and stepwise eluted with NaCl solutions. Apparent CGA content in the fractions was determined by reading A350 whereas the real CGA content was enzymatically determined. Fractions containing CGA were pooled and purity was confirmed by checking the CGA characteristic absorption spectrum as well as by TLC and HPLC. Pure CGA was finally obtained as colorless powder after water evaporation.
