Resumen:
Interpenetrated systems (IPNs) are conventionally defined as intimate combination of two polymers, at least one of which is synthesized or crosslinked in the immediate presence of the other. If one polymer is linear and penetrates another crosslinked network without any other chemical bonds between them, it is called a semi-interpenetrated (semi-IPN). In this work, two different methods to synthesize semi-interpenetrated materials are proposed and describe. The tridimensional polymeric matrix based on Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) is synthesized by radical polymerization and a lineal polymer with hydrophobic characteristic is interpenetrated (polyaniline, PANI). One method consists in the impregnating of swelling matrix in water with soluble monomer (aniline) and subsequently oxidative polymerized in situ. Other method consists in the swelling of the gel in N-methylpirrolidone (NMP) and the interpenetrating of second linear polymer soluble in NMP. Physicochemical and mechanical properties of both materials are studied: swelling kinetic in water and NMP, partition coefficients of PANI,pPhase transition temperature ( by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), and the elastic modules of semi-IPN materials are determinate (by uniaxial compression). Physical state of the water in the hydrogel is studied to provide useful information on the nature of the physical interactions between the polymer chain and the swelling medium. The results obtained show that the physicochemical and mechanical behavior of semi-IPN materials, regarded to base matrix, depend on the method and amount of loading the interpenetrated PANI inside the hydrogel.
