Experimental trends observed with liquid flow modulation of Trickle Bed Reactors

The catalytic oxidation of ethanol solutions is studied in a Trickle Bed Reactor operated understeady state as well as with liquid flow modulation. Results have been compared with steady stateexperiments at the corresponding average liquid flow rates. Depending on operating conditions,cycling can result in higher rates and different product distribution than those attained at steadystate with the same mean liquid flow rates. Ethanol reaction rate improvements up to 30% werefound.
