Resumen:
The effect of different kinds of basic supports on the performance of platinum-based catalysts was studied in this work, aiming to get monofunctional systems for the direct dehydrocyclization n-octane to produce ethylbenzene. It was found that the density of basic sites decreases in the order: K(Mg-Al)>KA+MgO>KA>KL It was concluded that the increase of basicity causes the electronic enrichment of platinum, which becomes able to dehydrocyclizate n-paraffins by the monofunctional mechanism; however, magnesium increases the basicity of the support but does not increase the ethylbenzene yield. In addition, the oxide-based catalysts are more stable than the zeolite-based ones but are less active and selective to ethylbenzene.
