Abstract: In order to synthesize MgAl2O4 and ZnAl2O4, three methods were used: a) ceramic method, b) mechanochemical synthesis, c) coprecipitation method. The materials were characterized by XRD, BET isotherm, isopropanol dehydration reaction, TGA/DTA and SEM. The surface area of spinels obtained by mechanochemical synthesis and coprecipitation method are higher than that of the spinels synthesized by the ceramic method. The samples show neutral acid-base properties. Pt (0.3 %) catalysts supported on ZnAl2O4 (by coprecipitation) and MgAl2O4 (by mechanochemical synthesis) show higher metallic dispersion than others, in agreement with the catalytic behavior in n-butane dehydrogenation reaction and test reactions of the metallic phase.
