Resumen:
Approximately 50% of children with post-diarrheal hemolytic uremic syndrome (D+ HUS) require dialysis. Few publications with disparate results refer to predictors of dialysis in the acute stage. Knowing at hospital admission the probability of requiring dialysis could be useful to decide which patient will need to be referred to a center of greater complexity. The objective of the study was to determine predictors at hospital admission of dialysis requirement.MethodsA retrospective, observational and cross-sectional study was conducted in the Sentinel Unit of Dr. José Penna Hospital of Bahía Blanca city. Patients younger than 18 years old diagnosed D+ HUS between 2005 and 2015 were included in the study. The predictor variables analyzed were: gender, age, previous administration of antibiotics or anticholinergics, hydration status, neurological compromise, diuresis, leukocytes, hematocrit and creatinine at admission. Univariate analysis was performed and ORs with 95% CI were calculated. Significant predictors (P
