Resumen:
Several factors influence in vitro germination of orchid seeds, and the time of exposure of seeds to sodium hypochlorite is one of them. The objective of this work was to evaluate the in vitro germination of Brasiliorchis chrysantha, Cattleya Cernua and Miltonia flavescens at 40, 80 and 120 days after culture, using disinfection with 70 % ethanol for one minute and a dose of 0.2 % NaClO for 5 and 10 minutes. Mature capsules were harvested prior to dehiscence of the aforementioned species, opened and a seed sample of 0.0050 g was extracted and placed in filter paper envelopes for disinfection in a laminar flow chamber and subsequent culture in Petri dishes in Murashinge and Skoog medium at half their concentration. To determine the germination percentage, microphotographs were taken with a Motic DM 39C loupe. The best germination percentage was when disinfected for 5 minutes and the highest seed mortality at 10 minutes in all species. B. chrysantha and C. Cernua were the most susceptible to NaClO exposure time and M. flavescens the most resistant.
