Resumen:
Biofilms are communities of multi-specific cells, which are organized in cumulus and adhered to each other by extracellular polymers secreted by themselves. In our laboratory we study a protein called Germin like protease inhibitor (GLPI) which has multiple enzymatic activities and a possible role in plant defense response against pathogenic microorganisms. Given the importance that biofilms formation has for the interaction between plants and microorganisms, we decided to investigate the possible effects of GLPI In this process. We determined that the in vitro biofilm formation of the phytopathogenic bacterium Pseudomonas syringae and halophilic archaeon Halobacterium salinarum was modulated by GLPI (Fig 1). Thus, we proceeded to investigate it?s possible effects in the formation of these structures by a plant growth promoting bacterium (PGPB) Synorhizobium sp. on tomato roots (Solanum lycopersicum) and their effects upon them (Fig 2, 3).
