Les Jessour dans le Sud-est tunisien: Un système hydro-agricole ancestral dans un milieu aride

Despite a substantial deficit in the water budget in Southeast Tunisia, which is characterized by arid climate conditions, man was able to practice agriculture by developing the technique of Jessour. This one faces nowadays the risk of abandonment following the socio-economic changes experienced by the region over the last five decades. This paper addresses the hydro-agricultural interest of Jessour and presents the main objectives of a research aiming at measuring the hydrological budget of crops using this technique. The final objective is to participate to the conservation of this ancestral knowledge and to optimize its use.
