Evaluation of cholesterol effect in DPPC liposome-phthalocyanine interaction

Phthalocyanines (Pcs) are lipophilic molecules so to improve solubility have been incorporated into liposomes (LP). We evaluated the behavior of two Pcs, in LP of DPPC and different cholesterol (chol) rates by fluorescence. The results show that ZnPc is incorporated in all formulations. TAZnPc exhibited similar behavior as ZnPc in DPPC LP. For LP with chol, TAZnPc did not show incorporation into the bilayer. The systems were modeled with molecular dynamics, getting the same behavior.
