A Monte Carlo model for the grafting of maleic anhydride (MA) onto polypropylene (PP) considering a large array of reactions was successfully implemented. A good fit to experimental data was obtained. The model allowed obtaining the number- and weight-average molecular weights, degree of grafting, molecular weight distribution (MWD), and detailed information about the grafting distribution. Conclusions about the importance of MA homopolymerization and the length of grafted chains were also obtained. Through the results of a sensitivity analysis, the relative importance of the reactions was assessed.
