Resumen:
This study was conducted to evaluate whether the dietary inclusion ofAcacia mearnsii tannin extract (TA) or the grazing schedule would impact the fatty acids profile in milk of dairy cows fed a diet combining pasture with total mixed ration (RTM). Nine Holstein cows were used in a triplicated 3 × 3 Latin square experiment, conducted through three experimental periods of 22 d. Treatments consisted of: morning grazing and afternoon RTM without TA (AM), morning grazing and afternoon RTM added with 15g TA/kg of dry matter (DM) (AMt) and morning RTM without TA and afternoon grazing (PM). The concentration of most individual or grouped FA in milk fat was not affected by treatments, except for 16:0 and 16:1 cis-9, which tended to be lower and was lower in AMt, respectively. The ∆9-desaturase 14:1/14:0 and 16:1/16:0 ratios were also lower in AMt treatment. In conclusion, the incorporation of low levels of TA in the RTM or changing the grazing schedule from the morning to the afternoon period did not affect the milk fatty acids profile of dairy cows.
