Resumen:
Brain cancer is causing an alarming level of morbidity and mortality in theworld. Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) has recently gain attention in CentralNervous System (CNS) cancer diseases, due to the successfully eliminationof gliomas in patients and therefore, the implementation and approval ofPDT for brain tumors in some countries is a fact. Conjugated polymernanoparticles (CPNs) have massive potential in PDT area. Recently, ourgroup have developed metallated porphyrin-doped CPNs for PDT ofgliomas tumor cells (GBM) trough ROS damage generation. A problem ofmany therapies that are used to eradicate gliomas is the systemicadministration and the arrival and preferential accumulation of the activedrugs into the tumor including nanoparticle systems. Our approach consistsof employing innate immune system cells, which can cross blood brainbarrier (BBB) and infiltrate tumors in response to inflammatory and / orneoplastic processes to deliver phototherapeutic nanoparticles.
