Resumen:
The purpose of this work is to present a pedagogical proposal to develop higher level thinking skills in children by means of the use of literature (fairy tales) in the English language class. The theoretical model proposed is Bloom´s revised taxonomy (1956, 1989, 2001) of stages of critical thinking: creating, evaluating, analyzing, applying, understanding and remembering. The practical proposal stems from an analysis of literature-based activities from textbooks used to teach EFL. It as concluded that most of the activities do not emphasize the development of critical thinking remaining at the level of knowledge. Only by means of the development of critical thinking students will be able to form an opinion, judge information, validate ideas, contrast values etc. Literature is an excellent vehicle to achieve that objetive.
