Free text entry versus structured data has been proposedas models in data entry in health information systems. Anew user interface was developed with the objective ofimproving data capture. It also implemented a modificationof the discharge summary data entry user interfacethat allowed the selection of already coded terms from alocal terminology in the context of an inpatient electronicmedical record. This software interacts online with a terminologyserver to provide feedback on data entry toclinical users in order to automatically code data. To evaluatethe impact of this new software, we measured usersatisfaction and the impact on autocodification rate. Thenew system had good acceptance from the users whoranked it high using QUIS (Questionnaire for User InteractionSatisfaction) and the auto codification rateimproved from 61.5% to 88.39%
