Integration of specialist and ancillary services system into a HIS: Development and implementation of a generic report system

Every single piece of healthcare information should be fullyintegrated and transparent within the electronic health record.The Italian Hospital of Buenos Aires initiated the projectMultimedia Health Record with the goal to achieve thisintegration while maintaining a holistic view of current structureof the systems of the Hospital, where the axis remains arethe patient and longitudinal history, commencing with sectionComputed Tomography. Was implemented DICOM standardfor communication and image storage and bought a PACS. Itwas necessary adapt our generic reporting system for live upto the commercial RIS. The Computerized Tomography (CT)Scanners of our hospital were easily integrated into theDICOM network and all the CT Scans generated by our radiologyservice were stored in the PACS, reported using theStructured Reporting System (we installed diagnostic terminalsequipped with 3 monitors) and displayed in the EHR atany point of HIBA?s healthcare network.
