Resumen:
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the frequency and characteristics of potential drug interactions in the context of the redesign of the alerts generated by a clinical decision support system. We performed the study between March 2011 and February 2012 in a healthcare network in Argentina. The annual incidence of interactions among patients in our network was 17.6% in hospitalized patients, and 27.7% in the ambulatory setting, with a mean of 11 drugs simultaneously prescribed. Taking into account the most serious, using all the network interactions, we found 1.878 in the inpatient and 1.480 in the outpatient setting. Having access to this information and to the interactions characteristics of the study period enables to focus on a depuration task of our knowledge database and the selection of real clinical cases for user-centered design for our clinical decision support system in our setting.
