Resumen:
Abstract: Communication technologies such as email and text messaging provide alternative ways of interaction between patients and physicians. This paper describes the design and evolution of an asynchronous messaging system using the Electronic Health Records (EHRs) and Personal Health Portal (PHR) interaction at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires. An increasing trend in the use of asynchronous messaging is observed by both physicians and patients. The number of messages increased exponentially between 2012 and 2013 after the redesign of the platform using User Centered Design (UCD) techniques. A total of 160000 more messages were send in 2013. The most frequent users are women around 30 and 50 years.
