Closed Loop Integration of Smart Pumps into the Electronic Medical Record

Abstract?Drug administration is one of the main medical errorsources. To reduce the risk it is recommended the use ofelectronic medication administration record (eMAR) linked toElectronic Medical Record (EMR). Additionally it is suggested touse "smart" infusion pumps with Dose Error Reduction (DER)systems inside. The best solution would be the integration of allprevious components as a whole closed-loop system able toactivate warnings and alarms to prevent or act on such anmedical error while it is going on.
