This paper describes the steps followed in the creation of alocal Interface Terminology to SNOMED CT (as referenceterminology) with a strong focus on user acceptability. Theresulting list of terms is used for clinical data input by physiciansand nurses at the Hospital Italiano in BuenosAires, Argentina. Description includes data model, mappingsto SNOMED CT and classifications, subsetsdefinitions and extensibility mechanisms. The InterfaceTerminology is currently used in the recording of diagnosisand procedures in inpatient discharge summaries and itscoverage is improving from user feedback. Its current sizeis 24,800 concepts, 67% of them needed post-coordinationfor appropriate semantic representation, due to a very flexiblepolicy that allows the use of any number of modifierson concepts
