Resumen:
Magnetic biochars were obtained by pyrolysis of sunflower seed hulls, an important agroindustry residue in Argentina. Two different methods were applied for the synthesis: pre-impregnation and postimpregnation. For pre-impregnation method, the seed hulls were stirred into a ferric chloride solution until reaching a complete supernatant evaporation. Then, the sample was subjected to pyrolysis at 400°C. Thus, two samples were obtained MB1 and MB3.On the other hand, CM5 sample was prepared following the post-impregnation method. In this case, the sunflower seed hulls were pretreated with ZnCl2 solution and then subjected to pyrolysis at 400 °C. The bio-char obtained was stirred into a ferric chloride solution. Finally, the sample was filtered and dried until constant weight. All samples were characterized by N2 sortometry, Atomic Absorption Spectrometry, XRD and SEM. In order to assess the adsorption efficiency of MB1, MB3 and CM5, it was performed adsorption isotherms at roomtemperature using guaiacol, an aqueous phenolic pollutant, in a range from 3 to 35 mg of guaiacol per gram of magnetic biochar. Sample MB3 presented the highest adsorption capacity of guaiacol with a maximum of 51 mg/g, this fact could be correlated mainly to the pore volume and the iron percentage.
