Resumen:
Elymusscabrifoliusisaperennialforagespeciesvaluedasaplantgeneticresourcefordegradedareasandforcropimprovement,beingasourceofsalt-tolerantrelatedgenes.Inthisstudy,wedeterminedthebreedingsystemofthisspeciesbyanalyzingseedsetunderdifferentpollinationtreatments,phenology,floraltraits,andembryologicaldevelopmentinfourArgentinepopulations.TheresultsindicatethatE.scabrifoliushasamixed,sexual,andmainlyautogamousreproductivesystem.Plantsfromallpopulationsproducedhighseedpercentages,withsignificantdifferencesamongthem.Self-pollinationoccurredfundamentallybetweenthechasmogamousfloretsofthesameplantbygeitonogamy.Thismodeofselfingresultsfromthefloweringsynchronyandthearchitectureofinflorescences.Self-pollinationbycleistogamyhadlowratesandwasobservedinonlytwopopulations.Thisinformationmaybeusefultoestimatethepotentialutilityofthisspe-ciesasaphytogeneticresource,andtodesignefficientcollectionandconservationprograms.
