Resumen:
Digitalizationis a fundamental vector of data capitalism. It has profound powerimplications for the public and private actors that are contestingthe redefinition of the rules and practices of a global politicaleconomy in transition to a data capitalism. These changes are thefocus of cyberpolitics, a growing interdisciplinary field that ismaking contributions to the IR/IPE literature. However, at least twoelements are problematic of this literature. First, it has not fullyexplored the implications of the digitalization process in thestructuring a new global political economy associated with the powerof data generation, access and control. Second, research incyberpolitics remains largely concentrated in the small group ofcountries that are leading or disputing the hegemony of datatechnology and practices. Contributions from research in the GlobalSouth have been minimal. To fill this gap this chapter looks at theimplications of the digitalization process in four strategic areas:cybersecurity; governance of digital trade and global finance; humanrights and citizenship on the Internet; the environment and theenvironment-sustainable development nexus. p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; border: medium none; padding: 0in; direction: ltr; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); line-height: 115%; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; }p.western { font-family: "Calibri", serif; font-size: 11pt; }p.cjk { font-family: "Calibri"; font-size: 11pt; }p.ctl { font-family: "Calibri"; font-size: 11pt; }a:link { color: rgb(0, 0, 0); }
