Resumen:
The maize genome is complex and has high level of genetic diversity. The joint information of agro-morphological traits and molecular markers provides a better description of the variability. The aim of the study is to evaluate the phenotypic and genotypic variability on a group of maize lines developed by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. The lines characterized by 2.952 SNP markers were evaluated phenotypically by means of 12 agromorphological traits in three environments of the south of the province of Córdoba, Argentina. The best linear unbiased prediction for genotypes in each environment was estimated by mixed model. Generalized heritability values estimated indicate that the phenotypic variability is explained mainly by the genotypic component. The principal coordinates analysis using 12 agromorphological traits and the principal component analysis using 2.952 SNP allowed us to obtain eight principal coordinates and 70 principal components which explained 65% and 53% of the variability, respectively. Finally, 64% consensus between phenotypic and genotypic data was obtained by the generalized procrustes analysis. This result indicates linkage disequilibrium between the genes controlling the agro-morphological traits and the markers SNP. Therefore, this diverse group of lines could be used to identify loci for the 12 agro-morphological traits.
