Resumen:
Chaco Eagle is one of the most endangered birds of prey of the Neotropical realm. With a global population estimated in less than one thousand adult individuals and very low productivity, human-related mortality is bringing the species close to its extinction vortex. Here we review current knowledge about the biology of the species and information about its main threats gathered through 20 years of a long-term project in Argentina. We also present the local and regional actions proposed or already undertaken to preserve Chaco eagle’s populations.
