Evolution of Relative Prices of those Drugs most Consumed by Older Adults in Argentina (2019-2020)

Objective: The present work aims to characterize the evolution of the relative prices of the drugs most consumedby the beneficiaries of the social work of argentines retirees between August 2019 and August 2020. Materialsand methods: A cluster analysis was carried out with the objective of defining groups of drugs that share policiesof price increases (reductions). Results: Eight groups of drugs were recognized, most of which are made up ofdrugs for the treatment of highly complex chronic pathologies. In the absence of agreements, the prices of drugsthat are mostly consumed by older adults tend to rise above inflation. Conclusions: Drug price increases cancause individuals to respond by skipping doses, which is extremely detrimental to the health of the patient, inaddition to affecting the health system by increasing hospitalizations with their consequent increase in costs.
