WADA-WORLD ANTI-DOPING AGENCY

Since 1998, our laboratory has been performing urine samples analysis from women athletes, in competition and out of competition. Steroid profiles and dope control results from 720 samples from women, were determined using the habitual screening procedure. It represents almost 3 % of total number of samples analyzed, belonging mainly to bodybuilding, weightlifting, athletics, cycling, swimming, fencing and boxing. Regarding adverse analytical finding, it shows a percentage of no negative similar to men samples. There are also, a great number of no negative samples that show more than two different kind of banned substances, including those named ?social drugs?. We find mainly anabolic and diuretics, substances used to increase the size and model the shape of the muscles. We will present these results, and discusses them by comparison against others obtained from men athletes.
