Resumen:
The studies about environmental change have benefited greatly from thecontributions made by local knowledge. This type of knowledge displays strategies basedon effective experiences and results in innovative solutions for specific environmentalissues. Research in urban, coastal and rural Latin American populations has allowed usto reflect upon environmental change mitigation, dispute resolution and public policystrategies. In this work we will discuss the research presented at the 3rd ArgentineConference on Ethnobiology and Society (III JAES by its acronym in Spanish) and wewill carry out an analysis aimed at identifying the most significant theoretical andmethodological axes in the cases studied, by comparing the approaches, concepts andmethods used. We will look at the specific contributions from these studies as regards theidentification of socio-environmental factors and their relation to the myriad of problems, contexts and populations in complex environmental conditions. We have assessed thebenefits of articulating observational knowledge and experimental knowledge –whetherthis be theoretical or applied– belonging to the scientific and academic communities aswell as to the local cultures, alongside their categorizations, perceptions and assessments. We have reached conclusions regarding the solutions and the feasibility of the proposalsin terms of their application in critical, high risk and vulnerable situations affecting boththe human populations and the biodiversity from various environments. Finally, thisapproach has led us to discuss the use of different resources, such as resources witheconomic and heritage value, among others, which require the coordination of individualand community actions at public, private, local, regional, national and international level.# EL ISBN SE ENCUENTRA EN TRÁMITE , POR LO QUE EL ISBN CARGADO NO SE CORRESPONDE CON EL DEL LIBRO: Teves L. & Doumecq M.
