Use of Biomass Fuels for Cooking and Improved Biomass Stoves in Mexico

This use of solid fuels such as wood (firewood), coal, and agricultural residues, both for cooking and heating homes, is the most important source of household air pollution or domestic air pollution.This article explores biomass fuels for cooking and the use of improved biomass cooking stoves in Mexico. The use of biomass fuels for cooking fell from 16.2% of households in 2000 to 13.2% in 2006 and increased to 13.7% in 2006 and 13.9% in 2018. For its part, the use of improved biomass stoves fell from 2.1 % of households in 2000 to 1.9% in 2006 and then increased to 2.4% of households in 2018.Since the domestic use of solid fuel will continue to be high, to improve the air quality in homes, it is essential to increase the efficiency of cookstoves and adequate ventilation to expel smoke from homes.
