Resumen:
Alcohol expectancies (AE) are known to be strongly related to alcohol use among children and adolescents and to mediate the effect of antecedents of alcohol like age and drinking peers. 199 children and 264 adolescents participated in the present study. Different hierarchical multiple regression analyses were performed with those variables associated to alcohol use at the bivariate level. Proof of the ability of AE to predict drinking experiences and drinking behaviors was found. Also, it was established the meditational role AE play between antecedents like age and peers’ alcohol use and the actual experiences and drinking behaviors of the participants. Among children, EA regarding an improvement in social relationships was able to predict the children’s alcohol experiences above the effect of socio-demographic variables and peers’ alcohol use. Among adolescents, negative AE were also an important predictor of adolescent’s drinking behavior and drinking intentions.
