Expositor invitado In "Sociological Aesthetics" (1896), Georg Simmel intends to open a new perspective both in the field of aesthetics and in the field of sociology. This programmatic essay postulates at the same time aesthetics as sociology and sociology as aesthetics. Sociological aesthetics, according to Simmel, analyses the aesthetic motivations or drives (pulsions or instincts, in a nietzscheanean way) not only of the ideas beauty and art, but of the forms of socialization and political organization.
