Public natural spaces and peri-urban natural protected areas are key for the provision of ecosystem services including promoting urban-dwellers? health and wellbeing through active life styles. Yet, accessibility to nature is sometimes not warranted. For instance, in Argentina and Latin America, anarchic and rapid urban growth has serious consequences both in the form of natural areas loss and increasing accessibility barriers.My project aims to analyse peri-urban natural areas availability and accessibility in two Andean cities in Argentina: Mendoza and San Carlos de Bariloche. I will be using a multi-methodological approach including visitors? and local community surveys, social media data retrieve and GIS analyses. The combination of these data sources will allow me to identify and classify open natural spaces, usage patterns, potential conflicts, accessibility barriers and users and non-users values and perceptions.
