Radio relics in X-ray galaxy clusters: NVSS and NORAS/REFLEX and the case for LOFAR and eROSITA

Radio relics are believed to trace shock waves in merging galaxy clusters. Here we present results from a simulated galaxy cluster sample aiming at describing the formation of relics in some of the interacting systems. We further make predictions for the expected number of relics in upcoming radio surveys (such as LOFAR) and address the importance of the future eRosita mission to detect their hosting galaxy clusters as a way to confirm their relic nature.
