Resumen:
The Third International Workshop on equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) washeld in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, USA on 19-22 September 2011. Thisequine alphaherpesvirus can cause respiratory disease, abortion in lategestation and equine herpes myeloencephalopathy (EHM). Equine herpesmyeloencephalopathy (EHM) has shownan apparent increased prevalencemainly in the USA in recent years, although outbreaks have also beenreported in Europe and include zoological species. The aims of themeetingwere to create a discursive environment whichwould report newdata and strengthen and encourage newcollaborations and to publish theagreed outcomes. Several important themes were highlighted: (i)epidemiology of infection; (ii) models of disease/infection; (iii) virulencefactors and (iv) immunity, protection and treatment. This articlesummarises advances and cites papers published since the lastworkshopand those that relate to data presented at this meeting. Readers whorequire more information about this disease are referred to the followingreviews and the reports of the previousworkshops.
