Resumen:
It is well known that the composite properties, an in special the mechanical properties depend on the effectiveness of the stress transfer between the matrix and the reinforcement. These properties are a function of the contact area and the adhesion between them. Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are thus an ideal reinforcement when we take into account their mechanical properties and the great contact area as consequence of CNT’s dimensions. However, to achieve an efficient reinforcement (high modulus and stress to break), it is mandatory that the carbon nanotubes don’t agglomerate to propitiate a good adhesion between them and the matrix. The functionalization with a polymer that has good chemical affinity with the matrix results in one of the most efficient methods to achieve a proper adhesion.
