Resumen:
Since the first meeting in 2017 in Chile of our South American Mycorrhizal Research Network, there have been abundant spores and mycelium of resistance passed, overcoming stresses and expanding the hyphal network of collaborative work. Our first book Mycorrhizal Fungi in South America was published in 2019. Fifty-three authors, mainly South American researchers, collaborated. It consisted of 17 chapters. After our second meeting in 2019 in Argentina, we also created a book that covered new topics and delved into some of the previous issues. This was published in 2022, surpassing the first version in the number of authors involved (88), South American countries collaborators, chapters (22), and themes. The new issues we addressed were orchid, ecto, and arbuscular mycorrhizas in Tropical South America, mycorrhizal fungal conservation, and sustainable food production after the revision of more than 1800 scientific publications. Moreover, taking into account the huge amount of data available of mycorrhizal fungi and symbioses in South America, our mycorrhizal network launched the challenge of building a database for these symbiotic associations on our continent. This important mission is underway, headed by a researcher from Ecuador who joined us in the last meeting and numerous colleagues from South America and other continents during 2022. We are undertaking the construction of this database and there are still new challenges to carry out together, which will surely emerge from this new meeting in Colombia, "anastomosed" as the “compatible mycelia'' to achieve the common goal of “mycorrhizal colonization and resources redistribution” of our continent!
