Resumen:
Macroscopic and histological studies of different segments of the digestive tract of theRufescent Tiger heron (Tigrisoma lineatum). This study aims to describe the anatomy and histology of the different parts of the digestive tract of the Rufescent Tiger heron (Tigrisoma lineatum) and to determine a possible connection between the above-mentioned elements and the food habits of this species. Ten samples of digestive tracts were used for macroscopic anatomy and six for histology. This species has an extensible esophagus, a developed glandular stomach, and a simple muscular stomach. The small intestine has an extensive duodenum, and it presents a single caecum with lymphoid functions. The digestive tract shows the usual four laminae: serosa, musculosa, submucosa, and mucosa. Characteristics of the digestive tract of T. lineatum are similar to those of other heron species and are consistent with the diet of the species composed of a wide range of prey items.
