Lebenswelt and the crisis of meaning in Marc Richir

The Philosophy of Marc Richir embraces a wide range of matters and problems oriented to a general programme of refounding of Phenomenology. It looks for the phenomenon "only as a phenomenon", under all the "symbolic institutions", in a new glance toward "the things themselves". The genetic dimension of this view pays attention to the making of the sense, and in this framework, the Husserlian approach becomes on the foreground, although not always a detailed discussion with clear links is at stake.1 This complex relation explains in part that many studies on Richir's work explore this aspect.In this line, we will intend to examine some traits of this dialogue in the context of the second period of the Richirian production, characterised by the notion of symbolic institution, from Phenomenology and symbolic institution, published in 1988, to The experience of thinking (1995), taking into account the main works, but also some shorter papers which illuminate the general background. The explorations of this period deal with the notion of symbolic institution appealing to reflections on the Lebenswelt of Husserlian origin, through meaning shifts and distancing, together with remarks regarding its relation with the Gestell as it appears in Heidegger to account for the mechanisms of sedimentation of sense, but also for the threatening and peculiar conditions in current times
