Resumen:
Overweight and obesity are independent risk factors for cardiovasculardiseases, associated with other risk factors such us hyperlipidemia, hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance. In clinicalepidemiological multicenter studies, the managing of the correctselection of biomarkers that will ensure the identification of theserisk factors is required and it is considered the ?pre pre analyticalstage?. Moreover, the concentration of these biomarkers in bloodsamples depends on several factors, including those inherent tothe individual, such as age and gender, ethnic and cultural diversity, sociological, psychological, environmental factors and othersreferred to pre analytical conditions. Besides, the quality assuranceand harmonization of all procedures in the pre analytical stage, the drafting of the informed consent and the standardization ofpatient preparation is very important in order to reduce errorcomparison between different laboratories. The SAYCARE Studywas held in children and adolescents (3 to 17 years) from sevenSouth American cities: Sao Paulo and Teresina (Brazil), BuenosAires (Argentina), Santiago (Chile), Montevideo (Uruguay), Lima(Peru) and Medellin (Colombia). The aim of SAYCARE was to developmethods to collect reliable, comparable and validated dataabout cardiovascular health biomarkers, lifestyles and environmental, social and familial factors. Regarding blood samples collection, investigators from each participating center were involvedin the planning and development of the protocol, which includedthe study design, the impact of pre analytical conditions on differentblood biomarkers and the stability of these biomarkers accordingto time and frozen storage of the samples and transportat reference laboratory in Sao Paulo for it biochemical evaluation.Different blood biomarkers were evaluated in 474 fresh samplesof serum, in different country centers: glucose, total-cholesterol,HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, iron, and hs-CRP. We also evaluated the stability of different biomarkers accordingto time and frozen storage within this pilot study across the concordance of the results obtained from the 49 blood samplesmeasured in two different centers. An excellent concordance andcorrelation between different centers were observed, in most ofthe evaluated parameters. This concordance is a consequence ofthe strict compliment of the pre analytical conditions previouslyestablished in the SAYCARE study.
