Resumen:
Due to the large volume consumption of plastics, the treatment of the resulting solid waste is becoming a major concern. Polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene(PP) constitute a significant part of the solid waste. Recycling provides a possible direction to reduce the impact of plastic wastes and due to the fact that complete separation of post-consume PP and PE is very difficult, it is necessary to have a good understanding of the behavior of PP/PE blends. Tensile test is the most common mechanical evaluation that is performed on polymers. Their behavior is well known to be dependent on the deformation rate. In low speed tensile tests at room temperature, PE and PP are ductile. However, at higher test speeds and/or at low temperatures iPP usually becomes brittle intension. The impact resistance is often the deciding factor in material selection because impact test measures the ability of a polymer to withstand the loadimposed upon being struck by an object at highvelocity. Thus it is a measure of the energy required topropagate a crack across the specimen.This work deals with the tensile performance of PP/PEblends.
